sorry i am so late in responding ...HI EVERYONE!!!!
sorry i am so late in responding to your comments. I am sure you understand. It's funny life has been alternately moving quickly and slowly..... sometimes in the same moment.
Donna, Thanks for your concern! Interesting that your favorite format is vertical. I have heard the theory you say , but I have heard it as related to horizon line. High horizon- needing to be grounded by the earth and low horizon- more ethereal.
It has become very interesting to me just how much is said with value alone. What do you think?
Hi Casey and thank you! Paul thanks you too.
Hi Cindy, As Richard McKinley says,"Value does the work, color gets the glory." Boy has this ever proved it to me.
Hi Domi!!!! Thank you. Paul is doing just fine.Let's go for a walk sometime.:-) xo
Welcome Patrice and please stop by anytime. When my life slows down I will make it a point to stop at your blog. happy painting!
NJ,
I have seen Katherine Hurley's beautiful pastel and oils. I'll check out what she is up to, thanks for the lead.loriann signorihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16738796573576452724noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2569842595006112796.post-67729485477217365432009-11-12T22:09:06.060-05:002009-11-12T22:09:06.060-05:00Hi Loriann,

I enjoyed the painting that you posted today-very beautiful subtle atmosphere.I like the direction that work is going towards. Over the past few months I have noticed that you are painting in the tradition of such artists as George Inness by creating a subtle and evocative atmosphere. As a suggestion to expand your arsenal of approaches to value studies you may want to go over to the North Light Book Shop- Katherine Hurley has some terrific DVDS.
Even though I work with acrylics and use colored pencils I found her DVD, Capturing the Essence of Landscapes in Oils to be very informative. She has a DVD in which she paints studies using black pastels & erasers. Even though I have not purchased this DVD it looks like an exciting way to approach value studies. She also has another DVD working with pastels.NJ ART 73noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2569842595006112796.post-47129135655040820942009-11-12T21:59:53.502-05:002009-11-12T21:59:53.502-05:00I'm loving this -
The only "danger"...I'm loving this -

The only "danger" with the email subscriptions is that I see the work and intend to come over to comment - and then I am distracted by the next email.

I'm making it a point to say how much I am enjoying seeing your art - and I couldn't resist this one.Patricehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10722805078667526468noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2569842595006112796.post-78416272164798134462009-11-12T20:58:19.749-05:002009-11-12T20:58:19.749-05:00So glad to hear Paul's surgery went well. Very wonderful, and an inspiration to me as I go back into the studio. I had planned to do some charcoal and graphite works for my next series.
My best wishes to Paul. Surgery is no fun, and I hope his therapy goes well. I hope he gets the pool.Casey Klahnhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08020906666248399435noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2569842595006112796.post-83686594203056773812009-11-12T09:08:52.388-05:002009-11-12T09:08:52.388-05:00Loriann, I'm sorry to learn that your husband ...Loriann, I'm sorry to learn that your husband needed surgery but very happy to hear that he is doing well! I wish him the best of luck with his physical therapy and recovery.

Your thoughts on format choice interest me very much. I almost always go for a vertical but have no idea why. I read somewhere that horizontals appeal to the more earth-bound among us and verticals appeal to those who are more spiritual. Not sure if I always agree with that. I like this painting with just the values. It seems like you could give it any mood you want depending on the colors you might lay on top.Donna Thttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17129186863757507990noreply@blogger.com
