6.5x6.5 pastel and watercolor on Uart paper
Waiting for sunrise, 6:45 am, light snow, silence only broken by the call of the kingfisher and Canadian geese: it was amazing!
I am posting two today since I was so busy yesterday with my open studio. The response was overwhelming. I was grateful to my husband who took care of the business end while I was freed to talk with people, tell stories of the paintings and show my process. Thanks to everyone who came! If you couldn't make it yesterday it's still not too late. My studio is open once again today and some of my favorite paintings are still for sale.

I absolutely love the subtly in this one. It's like I could here a pin drop. Wow! And even more so, perhaps, because on the blog it comes right after that highly colored field piece. I love them next to each other.
Thanks so much Karen. When we paint outdoors (no matter what the weather)it allow the landscape to really speaks to us. I know you do most of your work outside,as well. What do you think? I feel nature does the work. I am the conduit. Thanks so much for the glowing comment... I'll relay it to Mother Nature.
Warmly, Loriann
I totally agree, about nature speaking to us...sometimes I think I'm too deaf to hear it, but when it happens, it's the most magical thing!
Are you still outside as much? I've been kind of wimpy after coming back from the 80-degree weather!
Solitude helps. I need to be alone to truly feel the landscape. Silence comes hand and hand with solitude.
I am outside almost every day still. It's like an addiction. It feels soooo good when I am there!
I do understand that you might find the situation challenging upon returning from Aruba. I really don't know how you polar bears (you and Susan) do it in Chicago!
Gorgeous painting and beautifully evocative title--I feel as if I'm there.
Thanks Jala!
Jala, I have often thought about titles...their effect and reason. It seems it's best when a painting names itself. What do you think?
