beginning are ends

8x9 pastel and liquid !watercolor on Uart paper $100.

"Slowly dusk pours the syrup of darkness into the forest." (quote from the children's book Twilight Comes Twice) This is the other side of twilight, the late afternoon, moments before darkness approaches, when the last beams of light slide through.

It was warm and spring like and I am beginning to wish winter might just GO away. The only problem is my hands came out of my pockets too much. The result...too many strokes!

No, just the right number of strokes. As a matter of fact, it's my new favorite. Love the quote, too.

I thought this painting's title was going to refer to this almost-spring time of year when the sap rises in the trees and they start to get those beautiful reddish tones. I like your poetic quote too! Beautiful painting!

Thanks Dale and Donna!
I think that when an artist struggles with a painting the struggle will definitely effects her/his "vision" of it.
The quote is from the children's book Twilight Comes Twice. Love that book! I had forgotten to add that in the post and I just amended that. I wish they were my words. Thanks for stopping by and adding a comment!

Just discovered your blog through Jala Pfaff's site. I really enjoyed looking at your work and your loose, abstract style. Beautiful work.

Hi Jala,
Those blues/violets are what attracted me to the landscape in the first place. I am glad you noticed them.

Hi Stephen, I am so glad you found me through Jala's gorgeous blog (Thanks Jala). I visited yours site and loved your very expressive brush work and abstract style. That is always a goal of mine so I have added you to my blogroll and I will check in frequently. Happy to meet you!

One of your best! To me, the number of strokes has little to do with quality- just that fewer strokes means faster painting. So what? I greatly admire your dedication. You must be a great teacher!

Hi Gary!!!!
It's so good to hear from you again. I will have to go and check your recent work. It means a lot to me to receive such a glowing complement from YOU! I have admired your work for a long time. I hope to see you in Washington this summer.
As to the idea of the number of strokes .... I have been working hard not to "tickle it to death" and instead consider more carefully and say more with less. In addition I really want to try to leave more watercolor showing. Ahhhh, the curve of learning and change.
Thanks again for stopping by to visit.
Best,
Loriann
