Diptych/ daisies-in progress /fingers

You are probably wondering why I posted my diptych and my fingers in the same post, eh? Well, it's to offer an explanation. Both of my plein air paintings are unbearable/un-postable today. Sob. So I am posting the diptych that is in process.
And my fingers... well that's to show you I finally went to the doctor. Two nails on the right ( my painting hand) refuse to grow back. They are past the quick and each time I paint I saw the nail bed down some more. No more details please. Well my doctor's advice was to stop painting with pastels for now. Not an option. We compromised and I am wearing bandaids on both fingers. (I detest gloves!) They are cumbersome at best.
Tomorrow is another day.

1) Give yourself a break on the un-postable paintings. I currently have a stack about a mile high in the garage waiting to be sanded down (in prep for painting-over).

2) the daisies are looking great...I'd love to see this one again. love the purple.

3) Doctors! What a great suggestion! (eyes rolling). I like your band-aid solution. I hope they are okay! Or, how about you paint with your other hand for a week? Now that could be interesting...

Karen, or should I say Mom,
Thanks for the advice..let me reply;-)

1. Those un-postables drive me nuts!!?##! I am happy to hear you have some too. Misery loves company.

2.Thanks about the daisies.....let me look at that purple again.

3.I did think about painting with my left. Long ago when I had broken my right shoulder in a bicycle accident I painted scenery for months with my left. That being much bigger, it was easier. Maybe I will try south paw painting tomorrow.

I agree, the daises are lovely!

Sorry about your fingers :(

I look forward to see what you will create under these new challenges.

I'm sorry about your fingers too. Hopefully your band-aid solution will help. Thanks for sharing your daisies! They are looking real good already!

Thanks Joanne and Donna. I am hoping that my new, small adversity will open a new door. Either that or I will do some clumsy pastels:-) We'll see.

Loriann, Your diptych is so beautiful. The colors make me long for the warmer weather. Sorry about your fingers. I can see where not painting would NOT be an option. Let us know you're doing with that.

Thanks so much Janelle for your support. My finger update is on the next post.:-)

Oh my god, your poor fingers! But I don't understand--is it from sanded paper, or from the cold??

Jala, It's that varmit, the sanded paper. I really do love it...but you know how love relationships can be.

Hi Loriann,
Just a thought- when your fingernails grow back perhaps you could do something with super glue. I know some finger-picking guitar players who use it to thicken/reinforce their fingernails so they don't wear away.
Or maybe bigger pastels will help keep your fingers off the paper??
I love the daisies.

Great idea Jean! As soon as I have a nail I will SUPER GLUE. Would I place it over the whole nail or the tip? I have even thought of fake nails...but for someone who barely remembers to brush her hair once a day, that's an unlikely scenario.
Thanks for visiting my blog. I will bop over to yours.

Hi Loriann,

Maybe you shouldn't see so many Clive Barker movies.... :-)
I usually use Colourfix.
Recently I've used Pastelmat, which doesn't have a such pronouced tooth, but Colourfix remains my favourite.
I've never tried Uart.

Kind regards,

José

Hi Jose...yeh, I'll curtail my Clive Barker films at least till the nails heal.
As far as paper..I think I have tried them all. Colorfix is nice, vibrant with a not too smooth surface. But I must admit I like more tooth. That's why I LOVE Uart. I also want an untoned support. To make a luminousity I have found that I need whitish paper. Uart has a beautiful warm cream color. If you try it you'll never go back.
Thanks for visiting my blog. I'll go check yours.
