about 8x12 pastel and watercolor on Uart paperI was delighted to see a brand new reservoir today filled with exciting new shapes. The ice is melting. After days of temperatures in the 50s and 60s (OH! do I love Washington DC!) the ice has made new shapes as the reflective water appears. Spring is coming....whoooooaah wait a minute! It really is only a tease, but a wonderful one.

Hey Loriann. This is another gem! I love the new open water leading the eye into the scene. I sense the excitement towards spring. We have been blessed these last few days.

Thanks for dropping by. This must be an unusual sight (this ice thing) for you because I guess they don't have snow in Tucson.
As far as the tag facts...brave or foolish..my Mom would always remind me that there's a thin line.

Spring is near, and this really shows off the transition of seasons. Takes the bite out of winter to see a pretty one as this!

Thanks Karen. It was so incredible that the ice would make these new shapes. I chose to sharpen one edge to lead the eye there. Bold, eh?
How is the snow and ice faring in the great white north of Chicago?
All the snow is gone! It was 60 today! I loved it, and I know it won't last.
Your _choosing_ to sharpen an edge is exactly what you were talking about...consciously using what's there to make a composition. Crazy that that can be so difficult to see and do sometimes!
Wow Chicago without the snow! Our snow may or may not return .... either way winter painting is filled with amazing colors. Today it will be 70! I really love the winter colors with the warm air.
As for decisions, you do it all the time. It's what makes a painting work. Sometimes we do it unconsciously while painting, sometimes as we stand back and think. For this decision I made it before I began.

Hi Kathleen and welcome to my blog! Darks are always a challenge because they can't have too many colors, then again you certainly don't want them to be without variation. Balance.
