Today's Dessert: Floating Island

about 7x7 pastel and watercolor on Uart paper $100.
How to make water have distance, depth, reflections and atmosphere is always a good challenge. Squinting will always help...but then of course you have to make choices.
Today I was thinking about color to color edges.

Another thought: The river shows signs of spring, pileated woodpecker, owl, and a CROCUS!!!!!!
Yipee!

Great one! I love the strength of the island. Reminds me a bit of the Susquehanna river. The variations of the waters surface are equally engaging.
This morning while painting I saw 2 people jogging in shorts and short sleeved shirts. Spring must be near.
p.s. It was below 20 degrees f. with a fresh coating of snow!

You did a wonderful job of creating distance and depth in the water. Great color :D

Brian, Thank you. I will have to check out the Susquehanna river.
I know what you mean about the people out jogging. When I was painting it was about 37 cold degrees and there were people in shorts and tees running around. We painters STAND still for long periods of time. So we wear wool and more wool, plus gloves. I still would rather be painting (even though I am one of the runners sometimes.) I am not sure if we will even get another snow. Now let me go check out your recent work.

Thanks Dori! I have been struggling lately and getting my pastels too dark. So it's nice to hear words of encouragement. Thank you.

I really like the quiet simplicity of this one, Loriann. It reminds me of the Susquehanna river too - lots of floating islands. I'm going to miss your winter colors when spring comes!

Hi Donna, Are you from Pennsylvania as well? If that is what the Susquehanna River looks like I will have to come visit. Is it a wide river?
I think we will all miss winter colors but not winter temperatures. Green seems so mundane compared to the beauty of winter. Thanks for dropping by. I would love to see your art sometime.

Jala, I don't know if you get crocuses in Colorado...but we get them and their cousins, the snowdrops I just want to dance my happy dance! YIPPEEEE!
Thanks about the blues.
