Where To Go?

8 x 12 pastel and watercolor on Uart paper $100.
How far can you take an idea? That is the question today. Trying to develop a concept is not done in one shot. Instead it takes many trips inside (one's head) trying to figure out how to push it. During these times the only conversation is with the painting- not the scene or reference material. This is my river and I am developing that calm sunset/ stillness in twilight.

It's interesting...that trip inside one's head is, for me at least, always such a hugely difficult leap to make. Because I know the effort that lies ahead. But once we're in there it's like we couldn't imagine being anywhere else.
I think you've got at that mood just perfectly! I look forward to more developments...

Thanks Karen! That trip is the most exciting thing....don't you think? No maps just vision. Now let me go check what you are up to!

When you put away the reference and it becomes your own vision, is pure creativity. It is also the beauty and truth that comes across to the viewer. There is no comparison. It comes from the mind and heart to the canvas like nothing ever seen before. It comes from the artist.

Wow! What words Dori! Thanks!!! I think that is really what we as artists strive to do.

Very nice. I particularly like the edges where trees meet sky in the left upper area.

Loriann,
I love the simplicity of the underpainting, the way the violet bush on the left was formed by the water flowing into your shape. That's a beautiful trick, you make it look very simple. yummy

Hi Loriann, You must have a rich imagination, indeed. I love your use of color!

Thank you Jala, Chris and Janelle!
It's funny the trees on the left were a surprise to me that I just let flow, rather than plan. Sometimes you just have to let the painting lead. Don't we all love yummy color?
