10x24 pastel on lasgaux coated board A studio piece, painted from all my thistle paintings (Whidbey Island). It too, is still unfinished. I will finish it when I return.
Very, very good work in this pastel. The composition, again, is tight. The thistle plants in the foreground answer the lovely bank of blue/violet in the distance. And the golden field ties it altogether. You're really singing in this!!
Thanks Melinda, Donna and Karen, I really appreciate your input. This is the painting that I began while thinking about Vuillard's work. My struggle has been about how close can I make the values and still read depth. I am not sure what is the next step... more later.
Hi Casey and thank you. The lascaux ground is a french ground they had on sale at Dakota. A buttery, velvet like ground with a warm, cream like color, it is a joy to work with. I bought a bunch of it when I was there. See if you can buy some, Dakota is selling it out at a good price. Normally it is very pricey. I love trying new stuff.

Appropriate intensity when value is limited.
I am taken by the awesome intense b/v of your background. It works perfectly, and it is lovely. I am in the dark on Lascaux covered board.
I hope next year will be my year for playing with grounds, especially when I see your work.
