It feels like something should be a counter balance to the trees on the left side. Maybe a slight darkening of the sky on the upper right side. Another option might be a small stand of trees on the hump just to the right of the deer. Or leave it alone which might be the better option. OK last one, maybe create some lost edges along the horizon. Sound familiar, hee hee!
Really love the colors in the sky. Take care, Your painting buddy
Hey Doug You are so right and thank you for taking the time to consider solutions. This is the one I was going to send to you for comment. Thanks for your feedback here. I will think and try one of your solutions! You're the best Buddy!
I love this one Loriann - wow, that is a gorgeous sky! I really like how some of the pink from the sky is reflected on the ground under the deer. I hope you'll show us any changes you make.
I saw the most amazing sky this morning! It seemed the sky and the ocean had exchanged places. The sky was a sea of clouds with the "whitecaps" of the sky kissed by the golden rose light of the rising sun! I really have to start carrying my camera with me! (and leaving a few minutes early for work so I have time for photos)
I actually like the composition as is - There's an interesting tension there. I like how you lightened the sky - I almost think it's asking for just a bit more of those light colors in the blue and perhaps very pale yellow. The brights would actually "balance" the dark by leading the eye about.
Framing the center with a bit more deep foliage would work, too. But it's really lovey as it is!!
(Editing for others is so much easier than fixing ones own paintings...) ;^)
Thanks Donna. The sky is getting better. It's funny how I didn't even notice the need for a counter balance (as Doug pointed out). That's next on my agenda.
Hi Leah...so you mean the white caps were a golden rose color?
Looks like I am a bit late to weigh in on this. But heck what does one tell an award winning artist from the east coast. I do like the suggestion of counter balance. From what I am seeing on my monitor it looks like perhaps there could be a bit more distinction between the large tree, which I assume is in the near foreground, by warming it up a bit with greens, oranges, but not increasing its brightness. Just warmer to increase the atmospheric perspective of the hills in the distance.
Hi Marianne, Good point about the foreground tree. The value should remain the same but with some warmer colors. Please always feel free to weigh in. I appreciate your insights. Thanks!
