whispered moment

8x8 pastel on watercolor underpainting, thickened by fog

Just knowing there would be a thick fog in the morning made it difficult to sleep.  (I love fog.)
Painting fog is all about value relationships. Like bookends, choose your darkest dark and lightest light before doing anything else. The watercolor was easy, it flowed on the paper. But the added moisture in the air made the pastel chunky. I had to go to the car several times to dry the surface. The fog continued to be thick so time was not an issue.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone..now I will go bake a pie.

Loriann, I really love this and the impressionistic feel.

Oh yah, this is a good one!
I can really feel the moisture in the air
and how thick the fog is. The colors still
come creeping through. The low horizon and the
copse of tree just adds to the appeal.
Love the way you handle the pastel kind of scuffing along the surface.

I'll bet your pie was good, however, I've already had to much of Mary's awesome apple pie and yummy pumpkin. I only like two kinds of pie ... hot pie and cold pie. Hope you had a wonderful day.

Your painting buddy.

Thanks Jala... I guess you are right, the broken color in the sky really does have an impressionistic feel.

Hey PB,
So you think it worked? It's funny Paul saw it and said."that's interesting."
Egad...anything, but interesting!
I think that scuffing along the surface happened because of the moisture....
Glad you liked your pies. My sister had made the old favorite pies. So so I was free to experiment and make a new type of pie for the celebration. (the pressure was off) Pumpkin chiffon. I made it real gingery and cinnamony with a gingersnap crust. It turned out to be a keeper. But boy did I ever cross my fingers that it would work.
Have a good T-day weekend! I'll check your blog to see what you have been up to.

Loriann, this is truly spectacular. A real gem. I also marvel at your tenacity in dealing with the fog. It paid off!

Lovely work, Loriann - the foggy sky and violet, green, and orange triad work is just gorgeous here. This has a very quiet feel to it with the warm palette in such harmony.
