grisaille for larger oil

24x24 oil on linen
You probably have noticed that I paint this one view, from either side, over and over again.  I am fascinated with the reflections and the three bands of color. After studying of Whistler's paintings, especially his nocturnes, I have been noticing that one of his favorite design concepts is also the 3 parallel bands. He uses it many time and in all different ways. Sometimes he will even split the painting into even bands of sky and water/land. I wasn't quite so bold in this one.
You can already see in this grisaille where I will focus all my attention.

I'm looking forward to seeing how this painting develops! I think you recent oils have been wonderful. I love the saucy color layers. They appear to be so smooth. Ahhhh.

Hi Janelle! Thanks so much about the recent oils. It's funny after I posted this grisaille, I looked at it and said, nope, keep going. Many changes later maybe I will let it dry now....maybe not. Are you still working on a grisaille? I love rubbing the color, the line takes so much abuse!

I can't imagine what else is on your mind for this, but I can't wait to see where your intuition takes you. I expect there will be lessons in the changes you make. Can't wait!
