early morning at the swamp pool

It will be hard to leave my little swamp pool. I never knew Florida could be so beautiful. I could paint these swamp pools forever. I leave today. When I return home I will blog more about my amazing workshop with Sadie. I really feel this can be a life (art) changing moment. I have big plans. If you haven't seen her blog or website, sit down and give yourself a real treat. Here's her link.

This is my small painting of my Nova Scotia rocks. While not a beautiful painting, it was an eye opener about many things. More about that later.

The rocks look really good to me. I see a few things. 1st - not overworked (that says a lot @ a workshop focused on a painting - esp. realist work). 2d - much like your landscape signature, which is very authentic. 3d - brill color work, not staid or dull. 4th - very nice work @ the shading, but I know she teaches much more than that. Anyway, the depth is nice.

Bravo!

The back of the swamp, that red violet stripe - that's what thrills me in the pastel work. very cool.

Safe trip.

I should have complimented you on the edges, too. Wow - what a great work this rock work is.

Hi Casey,
Thanks so much for your thoughtful review. Sadie is an amazing teacher and painter. As you probably already know, my goal was not to paint like her but to absorb her knowledge and find out how I paint with it. I can't wait to see how I use it in the studio.
It's funny now after years of doing a painting a day, it really is my vitamin. I am not ready to face a day without it. The pastel landscapes were my desserts each day. Pastels still are my first love.

Hey Sam... thanks about the rocks. I still feel they leave much to be desired. But, best of all, I am excited to find my way. This time the rocks will be in the landscape though.

Hi Leah!!!! Those Nova Scotia rocks. Remember the day we went to fill my backpack with them? I thought I would never be allowed over the border with half of NS on my back. Give me a call when you get a chance! I hope you had a nice spring break!

Glad to hear your workshop gave you food for thought. I like this Florida piece. It looks very quiet and still and humid, but there may be crocodiles in there.

Hi Jala, Thanks about the piece. And yes, there were probably alligators in there, at least that is what i was told. Alligators are far less aggressive than crocs....neither would I like to meet. People also told me I was too big to meet any out painting. I worried more about the snakes as I crept my way through the grasses to get to my swamp. Water moccasins.
