i'm not thinking, i'm seeing

9x16 (estimate) pastel on Uart
Richard shared a great quote from the master, Claude Monet: "I'm not thinking, I'm seeing."   Monet said that when he was asked by a student, "What are you thinking when you do...?" Our job really is to do the thinking before (that's why we do the notan.)  Then we are responding to the painting. The scene is only the muse.
Advice:
You bring your experiences with you. Be intuitive when you paint.

It's like Wolf Kahn said. Painting is not really different that pitching (in baseball). You train, you train you train. Then when you paint ,you aim and you trust. Analyzing as you work doesn't help. Analyze before, analyze after.

It's a total travel day. The day I lose the 3 hours I stole when I flew to Seattle. So as I travel I post this  painting.  I did in La Conner yesterday. Christine and I were enjoying our last moments painting together. Bye Christine, I'll miss you!

Too bad you can't take it with you, time thief.

Smart comments - and very true!

I find it's only over time and experience that you begin to trust to your experience and "feeling" when in the middle of a piece. It's still very exciting though to just try without being quite sure why you feel it's right to do something!

That painting belongs to my collections. I am collecting paintings with that kind of design. I love paintings that are inspired by nature.
