september harvest moon

 9x12 oil on gatorboard
Each night I walk to  the soccer field next to my house to watch the show...the sunset. Usually the colors tend to be orange, red, hot. This was later and by now it had a beautiful, wispy, neutral violet cloud at the horizon. Civil twilight it's called, about 1/2 hour after sunset. For many evenings last week the full moon was present heavy in the distant sky. On this night the sun  easily stretched its arms high from underneath the ground plane, coloring the sky with its rich glow. The grass was the hardest to do for it always seems too cool. To counter act that I painted a warmer red underneath.
This is a studio piece. You can see the underpainting here.

This grass is exactly cool and damp. The same moon was hung here in Maine while geese sat on the silver bay and loudly planned their escape. Tomorrow is travel day. I don't know where they're going, but I'm going home to the dawgs.

Hey Sam! I have missed you! The dawgs must be missing you as well. Hope you had a great trip to the homestead in Maine. Safe travels!

Loriann,
I have been away from blogs and blogging for awhile, but I have been watching with delight as you move into this new phase of studio painting. I just love your studio paintings so much! Be careful, some company might offer you a deal on the reproduction rights--they look very marketable to me! Now, in my mind that only increases, never decreases their value. At any rate, it's good to know there is that option possible!. :-)
