sunrise

5x7 pastel on somerset
Rising from my very comfortable bed is much easier when I am going to paint. This was created in the moments before the sun would slide over the horizon and begin the day. The ground is cool and dark, yet the light rising from the place the sun will show momentarily is great. I think I will take it to the studio for a tiny bit of work.

Knowing you don't have to accomplish a finished work on the spot has its advantages, eh? Life is not a pop quiz.

I love it when an artist can make such a nice painting to feature the sky. Especially this kind of sky where the clouds pretend to be mountains.

Hi Sam..not a pop quiz, hmmmmmm. Yup this one has some take home.

Hi Donna,
Thanks..that's an interesting observation, clouds that pretend to be mountains. I never would have seen that because I only thought clouds. Clouds are challenging, you have a moment observing them and then you get to wing it.

Hey Loriann. I just viewed best in show at the Maryland show. It's strong work. I have to say representation always wins the top awards. I'm not saying it's not worthy. I'm saying if your outside the box it's difficult. Your work is cutting edge. The edge is ever changing.

from the top prizes but want to encourage you on your journey. You have your own style and should pursue it
