sparkle and simultaneous contrast

about 8x8 pastel and watercolor
Making sparkle in light and water is about simultaneous contrast...but then again isn't it all about simultaneous contrast??
Simultaneous contrast... put a neutralized color and then the one next to it appears more brilliant. I think it also makes the gray seem to own the complement, even if it really doesn't.

You make me think @ how often s.c. comes into play. Always - you're right.

Gosh Loriann your latest two works look quite abstract, in yesterday's painting that streak of blue on the water is just magical really draws the eye into that middle distance. Today's painting is full of vitality interesting how you are capturing intense coldness and life too it is as if the cold is falling and causing the trees and water to try and shake it away. Beautiful work.

You really know how to work those winter colors, Loriann. Maybe we notice these beautiful harmonies even more when we aren't overwhelmed with green.

I love this Loriann! You work magic with the colors and so true about s.c.
It is always a joy to open up my email and find your post:)

Beautiful work, Loriann - an expressive suggestion of crisp, bright early morning in late fall or winter.

Thanks Casey, SC is so amazing . The more I examine it the more I understand the complexities overlying the simple meaning. And, for the record, I might be right about 45% of the time;-)

Thank you Caroline. I feel like I have been finding "me."

Oh Donna, the winter cools are amazing..they make serious neutral operas!! I really don't have to do a thing, just attend the event.

Thanks Sara! I am so happy that you find my work enjoyable.
