obsessions with color

Recently I ordered a new (for me) color from Gamblin- radiant turquoise. It's an opaque color that I fell in love with immediately. I want to plan a painting just to use it. So I am beginning my studies of what I can do with it. Here I have mixed it with hansa yellow light ,  Quinacridone violet, Quinacridone magenta, viridian, Ultramarine blue (all transparent colors) ...yummy neutrals. Next I will work with what happens when I do....... (fill in the blank.) I love to experiment!
Meanwhile work continued with Harmony.
Oh and by the way, if you view my blog in Firefox please let me know if it is showing in the correct size, k? Thanks!

I checked back to see when Lisa and I thought we knew better than you. It was exactly one week ago. Groan... I'm so glad you proceed undaunted by the teeming hoards. What do we know? Nuthin'. I am, as ever, in awe of your persistance, as you touch this landscape with the glow of a diva. Keep going; every day is a lesson.

Lovely colours Loriann they look bright and cheerful. Some nice neutral colours and some greys too. Have you used the turquoise before?

Experimenting with new materials is so fun and fuels growth. Great to see it. I'm about to start experimenting with making my own oil paints from pure pigment

Thanks Sam! I appreciate your support!

Hi Caroline, No I have never used turquoise before...at least I don't remember doing so. For so long I had used only a traditional palette in oil, then switched to pastels and when I returned to oils I wanted more. I love the experimenting! I think you do too. Any new favorites?

Hi Ed! Making your own paints, wow that sounds exciting! I will have to check your blog and see what you are up to!

Each step another level of sublime glowing color! Great to see your color experiments! Does "radiant" mean that it sparkles?

Scrumptious colour, I can't wait to see what you do with it. I'm not familiar with Gamblin, is it like a cobalt turquoise?

Harmony is getting better and better.

Hi NJ!
Yes the obsession is part of the job, a very joyful part. The new magazines are exciting! I ordered a subscription to plein air. Can't wait to get it! How is your painting going? I will check out Outdoor Painter. Thanks!

Hi Kvan and Lisa!

Here is a link to info about the radiants by Gamblin http://www.gamblincolors.com/artists.grade.oils/radiants/index.html
Radiant turquoise is Phthalo green, phthalo blue, titanium and zinc white. You can easily make it yourself if they don't sell Gamblin paints in your area Lisa. I plan on trying this in my underpaintings since they are opaque. Cobalt Turquoise is probably similar-without the white. Cobalt colors are semi transparent by nature and phthalo colors are transparent...but you put them with white and they are all opaque.
Thank you about the painting...maybe one more day of work!
