twilight 2 10x9 |
Night time, the later part of twilight...those few moments ...the sun has set the sky is darkening. Ahhhhh. Maxfield Parrish did it in a way that can't be topped. I have spent many nights, months of nights just walking at that particular moment. If I am home making dinner I just pop onto the deck for those moments. It might last 5 minutes maximum. Memorizing. Finally I attempt the beauty of that light. It will take many times to find a way.
Oil underneath, on Uart, pastel layered on top.
BTW Today is my celebration. It's one year now and I am healthy! Yay!

They are beautiful-my favourite is Twilight 2 -I love it for its moody feeling-the darker sky makes the orange light seem more dramatic.
Glad to know you are well-best wishes in the new year.
Hooray for a healthy Loriann! What a great thing to be able to celebrate! Once again, your memory has not failed you: beautiful, believable evening light. I haven't tried oil underpaintings yet. Do they take long to dry?
These are phenomenally beautiful. No offense to M. Parrish but I'd take one of these over one of his any day.
Thank you Najma,
I think number 2 is my fave of the two...wait for more. best wishes to you in 2012!
Hi Donna, thank you and believe it or not an oil underpainting is dry in minutes as long as you use something like gamsol to thin it and paint like a thin watercolor wash. The colors are more intense.
Hi Jzark and thanks so much for you kind words!
You paint the edge of light beautifully! You always have. I'm so glad you see the magic and can paint it.
I'm even more glad you've fought for and won your health back. The world is better for your presence.
Wooohooo! (she said raising her coffee mug in a toast!) Best of health to you, most definately cause for celebration.
One year...that's great, Loriann......love the blues in these, or rather the broken colour in the blues.....
You are so kind Sam! Thank you. I am certainly richer for having your friendship.
Thanks Lisa!
Thanks Maggie! The dance of so many colors on top was the fun part.
I quite agree with you both about twight being so magical and about Maxfield Parrish doing it grand justice. And I think your interpretations are just as valid! Nice work!
Congratulations on the one year mark!
Frequently I wander through blogs on the "Next Blog" button.... I was tickled the other day that your blog and mine were next door neighbors for a moment. I do wonder how that all works....
Many wishes for health and creative happiness for this year, too, Loriann! Still following you and one day will try the memory paintings. Am reading Carlson now. Best wishes!
Hi Marilyn,
Twilght, especially that night green part has always amazed me since childhood. Thanks about my interpretation...i will keep trying.
When you mean next door do you mean on a blog roll?
cheers!
Hi artist and welcome to my blog comment corner. I believe it s the first time we have met. Are you enjoying Carlson? Do let me know when you attempt your first memory painting, K?
Happy healthy new year to you too!
Loriann,
I changed my profile and didn't realize it would sign my comments on Blogger as "Artist"! I am Teri Robus
I am enjoying Carlson-the writing is quite ancient and some of the techniques he speaks about seem very old...and I wish the paintings would be in color .. but I hope to learn some things about landscape. I will let you know when I attempt a memory painting!
Hi Teri!
John Carlson's book will always be amazing with its age old information. I would consider it a bible of art.It has everything you need. As for color images, if you would like to view the paintings in color google "john carlson images." There is a small bounty available online. Enjoy!
Thanks much! I will look online for his color images. (i changed my profile and am back to my name...)
Hi Loriann, it's been ages since I have posted but I look at your blog posts everyday. congratuations on your one year mark1 And for your health in general-YAY! i love your twilight paintings and I have to say of these two I love #1 I love the glow it produces the freshness of it. I think you have mastered it ad sometimes are too hard on yourself! We often don't see our own art being as wonderful as it is and in your case I think that is sometimes true. You Rock!
Sara
Hi Sara,
Thank you for your visits and your kind words. I guess that when we strive for a concept/a feeling we are not happy until we achieve this elusive thing. I think that is my case at least. best wishes on your health too. do feel so fortunate!
cheers! Loriann
