My last evening in the Woodstock area was spectacular for so many reasons. The beauty of the area, especially where the grasses were long as vistas wide. After a wonderful painting session I was driving back to my barn (where I stayed for the week.) On the side of the road was a statue of a standing bear with front paws raised. Hmm interesting, let me pull the car up a little closer...it looks so real. But wait a minute, that wasn't a statue it was moving! A real black bear standing tall! WOW! That was pretty amazing for a city girl like me.

As for painting, when I was at the field I tried some more black paper. This time I tried a very elongated format. It's an interesting way to set up a pastel when the land is darkening quickly. I tried to keep it simple, not perseverating on details, just essentials. It was good that it was so big and the light was so short.
Right now I am in Burlington VT and the lake breezes are blowing. I have totally missed the huge storms in DC. Everyone back at home is roasting and in the dark, including my husband and 5 cats. So sorry guys... I hope the lights go on soon.
My next destination is Nova Scotia, purely a pleasure trip. I will be visiting my closest and most wonderful friend in the world, Leah. Maybe I will post... maybe I won't.
toodles for now!

Loriann, you are too much! Black bears... photo and all. I can hardly wait for you to arrive. The only wildlife we're likely to see is the big raccoon that visits the green bin at night, or if Ginger has her way we could encounter a skunk.
See you tomorrow!!!
See you soon Leah!
I am a new (emerging) pastel artist in Nova Scotia!
I have been reading your blog for a while now, I love your style.
If you're near the Annapolis Valley, I'd love to meet you.

Hi Sharon! Thanks for the invitation....I will let you know. Happy painting!
You and bears! What's the deal?
What is it about you and de bears?!
Wish I had known you were going to Woodstock. We own land there on the top of Guardian Mt. Great views.
Your pic reminds me of Al Grossman's Bearsville Studios, just west of Woodstock. Ah, those were the days.
Have fun in N.S.!
Hi Casey,
I just don't know. Bears and I just have this attraction thing.heehee.
Hi Sam,
Land in Woodstock! Are you from those parts? Yes I had to laugh when I noticed the town next to Woodstock was Bearsville! The place I saw the bear was close to the huge reservoir. He was near a small cafe...nearest the dumpster... figures huh? That's why he sort of just blew off my presence. You are everywhere Hawaii, Colorado, and Woodstock! Where else? ciao!
Very good job, i love the colors! :)
Thanks Mari Jose!
