more wax medium

Two weeks ago I was fortunate to spend a couple of days working with Christie Scheele (at the Woodstock School of Art.) I had wanted to learn about the wax medium possibilities. Christie is a master with the medium. For a treat, check out her website. The good news is that I will interview her in late August.
Most of Christie's work is done on a very dark  or black gessoed canvas which sets the stage for a very beautiful, moody feel. I tried the black gesso, but now I have reverted back to a lighter underpainting.  I must say I love this new medium. First, it replaces the toxic Liquin I have been using for a long time and second the wax helps me work up a painting faster.
This painting is one I painted while working with Christie and just finished yesterday. Lately I have had a fascination with rivers, especially from an aerial perspective.

Hi Lisa and thank you. I am experimenting with both Dorlands Wax medium and Soho wax medium.

These are georgous, Loriann. I have been looking for a way to avoid using so much Liquin too. Especially since that's what I think set off the smoke alarm in my studio one night! (I had two large paintings drying, with the window closed, and the place smelled like Liquin).
I tried using Gamblin wax medium, and glazed over a failed painting. It's surprisingly transparent, and soft, almost like a stain.
Where do you find Soho wax medium?

beautiful! I too have always been inspired by winding rivers and paths. I think they are symbolic and the expressive lines add so much to a painting. I'd love to learn more about the way you handle the wax.

Hi Linda,
Thanks. I found the Soho in Woodstock. Check on online to find a distributer, I am not sure where else to get it. Liquin is a stinky thing!

Hi Sarah, Yes river, paths and road, they all lead and let go and intriguing concept. Soon I will post more about the wax!
