Winter Solstice and Wolf Kahn quote

“Eighty percent of painting is color. The problem is that when you mention color, people automatically assume you’re talking about bright color–colorful, loud, or boisterous hues. Color used in an uncontrolled way, without proper concern for the tone and structure of a painting, comes across as garish.” Wolf Kahn

I admit it, I can be guilty of too much color. Finally, I realize now that the painting is only as good as the quality of its grays. Therefore my quest is to create the most beautiful grays and have color support them.
In the studio I work to capture the feeling of the winter solstice.

Consider it captured.

Only you Leah would put it in such a wonderful way... I didn't even have to look to see the signature. Glad you think it works. Solstice tomorrow, let's talk.

Your solstice is a beautiful place. Once again, you show that perhaps pastel is a winter medium. Makes me want to get back to them. Not practical for Hawaii, acrylics there. But when we get back...

Yes, you certainly captured it, right down to the temperature of the air, and the stillness there. Bravo.

This time I'm drawn to the subtle color in the land.

Hi Donna and thank you . Have a wonderful holiday. You probably even have snow. I still remember that beautiful snow painting you had in the national show at the Strathmore years ago.

Hi Liz! That's interesting... the land draws you this time. hmmmm. Have a wonderful holiday. I wonder what you will write about during the break. Enjoy!
