color choices

pastel study, 9x14
On Saturday I was working with a group of students and we were talking about color choices. They wanted to know...'why did I choose that? what color is underneath?" I could answer the questions and I did, but more importantly one must always realize that color is a very personal thing. We don't all "see" it the same way. Also, the color you choose is about making a painting- a vision. Duplicating what you see is not the goal. Creating a special reality that has mystery, that's my goal.

I hope you know how fortunate you are to not feel obligated to duplicate reality, especially when it's right in front of you outdoors! That is great advice about making a vision - thanks and beautiful painting btw!

Thanks Donna! You know that you could duplicate if that was your goal. But the real question is why do you paint?
PS How are you feeling?

Loriann, I got Botox injections for my headaches last week. They aren't working but I won't give up. Your work inspires me to keep thinking like an artist even when I can't paint :-)

Hang in there. It must be really hard.I sure hope they figure out what to do. Did you have the headaches when you were in Maryland?

Loriann, I've been fighting this for a few years now. It started in Maryland and has slowly gotten worse. Maybe one of these days I will start to slowly get better.

You will Donna. You need to find out why...it must be so frustrating. Take care!
