Geese Glow at Twilight

6 x6 pastel and watercolor $100. plus tax
On the way to the reservoir I was shocked by the view of this field. It had the foggy glow of early autumn. And finally geese! So off the road I went.
I want to add thank you to everyone for taking the time to visit my blog and support me with your thoughtful comments. What would I do without you?

Icy Green with Ducks

about 10 x 10 pastel and watercolor on Uart paper $100. plus tax and shipping

I am obsessed lately with the thought/hope of snow. This morning there was one again a possibility. So I left the house in darkness just hoping it might snow as I painted by the reservoir. Once again the color of the water was than greenish hue topped with the pink of the sky.
When I paint with watercolor I always think of the skeleton of the painting-what's underneath. That will then give me just the right color to play off of. Lately I have determined that winter is my favorite plein air time. The colors are exquisite, making the discomfort easier to handle (plus I can always indulge my Chai addiction afterwards).

Silver Geese in Pink Light

about 9x9 pastel and watercolor on Uart paper $100. plus shipping and tax
Creating color harmony is one of the most important aspects to having a successful painting. In this painting I chose pink- alizarin-violet - blue-all cooled hues. For a little spice a grayed down (to cool it) burnt sienna in the foreground land. If the burnt sienna was left un-grayed it would break the harmony. That's my logic:-)
On another note I have become addicted to Uart paper. Its texture, versatility and underlying warmth is a perfect support for my pastel paintings. In addition it holds the pastel without use of fixative and loves watercolor. Try it sometime.

Cold Water, Warm Geese

about 9x9 pastel and watercolor on Uart paper $100.
It's amazing to me how the geese can swim on that frozen water and look very happy.
