10 x12 pastel on BFK
As I said in my last post, this is the San Luis Rey Mission: the place where my Dad and Mae devote a good portion of their time to help others. The color was added in the studio on top of the value painting which worked as a grisaille. I tried to show not just a place but a feeling.
Dad and Mae this is dedicated to you. Thank you for everything you do.

Wow, a small painting with a big impact!
I didn't think it could look any better than it did, but it does! That sky just sings! And I love how you bathe the land with the colors of the sky. This is a special painting indeed!
i've said it before, but WOW!
it worked...this feels beautiful!
Morning B,
This is SMOKING HOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The power and intense visual of color is incredible.
I wish I could see the actual piece so I could sit, study and marvel at how BEAUTIFUL it is.
I could talk about this one all day, but I won't.
It's one of those pieces that causes me to just sit, mesmerized at all the detail that really isn't.
Your painting Buddy, (totally impressed)

What a beautiful painting and a wonderful tribute to your Dad and Mae. They and you are inspirations!
Hi everyone and thank you for all your kind words! It is a special painting for me. I am glad it is evident.
Thank you Nika.. I am delighted it had impact.
Hi Janelle and thank you. A real tonalist I will never be, but I love using the grisaille and glazing the colors.... ah, a happy medium.

Hey PB..there you go again making me smile.... "smoking hot" .......heehee.
A big thank you!
Hi Leah, My Dad and Mae are wonderful, lucky me, eh? Thanks! I hope your Mom is doing better.
You're welcome, Loriann. I just wanted to add that looking at this one makes me feel incredibly uplifted and happy. It's amazing how big of an impact a seemingly "simple" painting can have!
This is gorgeous, Loriann. As always, I'm amazed at how you manage to produce a steady flow of beautiful work, even in a different setting and during the holidays. Guess that's why you got the well-deserved "stickability" award from Katherine Tyrrell. These pastels from California are really lovely and it sounds like you had a very nice holiday. Best wishes for a very happy and healthy New Years!
Thanks Brian... I am only doing what I love:-)
happy, productive, healthy, fun, new year my friend!
