nocturne

8x8 oil
I am having a very hard time photographing this nocturne. When it dries I will try again. What you can't see is the very small changes in color temperature across the land. The value is the same, but (when you can see it ) you can read the structure of the land. The color temperature defines the form.

Great job with this nocturne, Loriann! You've inspired me to try again. I think they're the most difficult (but most intriguing) of all the Magic Hours.

This is great! I feel as if I'm standing at the bottom of this hill and looking up at the scene you've painted. Wonderful job B! It's a beautiful piece.

I get so frustrated trying to photograph dark paintings, especially before they dry! I have no patience.

This one looks lovely, though - I'm looking forward to seeing the next shot of it.

Hi Loriann,
those nocturnes are really fascinating to paint, aren't they? Love this one already with it's subtle mood.

Hi Janelle, Thanks about the nocturne! Yes, nocturnes are a whole different thing...can not be compared to anything else. I am starting to believe that I should do some plein air nocturnes so that I have more experience to draw from...not just memory. Give it a try again.

Hey PB,
Thank you...it still needs something else. I am not sure what.

Hi Jul, You are right, there is no photographing a wet nocturne. I will try to photograph it again tomorrow.

Hi Astrid, I loved seeing the work from your workshop. Looked like a marvelous environment! Sounds like you really had a good experience. And yes, nocturnes are fascinating to paint. Hard.

It reminds me so much of the Whistler nocturnes! Hard to see the temperature changes in the land forms, but as you've photographed it, it's so quiet and beautiful!

Whistler...oh, I wish!!! I will photograph it again later. I appreciate your support! Nocturnes are challenging!
