12 x12 pastel and watercolor on marble dust boardI am working on so many studio pieces at once right now and then this one was smiling at me from the top shelf. I looked at it and it was an "ah ha!" moment. Now I know what to do! I made some small changes and now I am satisfied.
If anyone is in the area, there is a show of the Maryland Pastel Society opening at the Ratner Museum (Bethesda) on Sunday, the 11th. I have 3 pieces in it. Come see the work by many absolutely amazing pastel painters.

Ooooohhh....I caught my breath when I saw this revealed on my computer screen! I bet it's even more stunning in person, huh? I continually find that a photo of a pastel painting on a computer screen misses the mark by a lot compared to the richness and vibrancy of pastel to the naked eye.

You are right Jala, the jpeg never really gets the richness of the pastel. I think it's because part of the pastels richness comes from the fact that the pastel crystals have little sides that reflect light. You can't get that in a jpeg...in fact I wonder if it confuses the camera.
I love this one so much. One thing I'm admiring in it right now is how you set your horizon line way up high, and still create a really deep space. I'm struggling with having it seem like that back tips up...is that a perpesctive issue? (will post these next week so you can see what I mean).

Do you mean to put weight at the bottom of the painting to help that part stay "down" and the high up horizon stay "back"? Like put a big rock of some bushes down there?

That daisy field had my heart for two full weeks. I can't wait to go back there is summer. My mind has been brewing new directions after my winter work with the plein air pieces.
