Icy Other Side

7.5 x7.5 pastel and frozen watercolors on Uart paper $100
On this painting my focus was how few strokes of pastel can I make and still feel the beauty of that place?
There is my easel on the hill.
Happy Inauguration Day!

I always look at your pieces and admire their economy/efficiency of mark, so this is an interesting post. Do you think that you actually used less than usual?

P.s. I like the photo...like an inside peek into your world at the reservoir.

Lorianne, this is a lovely blog with beautiful paintings.

Thanks for following my blog and I hope you will join in the conversation there. Also, I think we are neighbors of sorts :) as I live in Northern Virginia (for the moment, anyway - long story). I know your beautiful river as many do in the Washington, DC area!

It appears as though today will provide you with lovely sunshine to paint a beautiful painting.

Thanks!

Hi Loriann. This is one of my favorites so far! I'm trying to figure out why other than the obvious that you are very talented. I think there are some edge differences and the dark sky at the top seems to put me right on the water/ice. A great piece!

Hi Karen!
I aim to do less... but I would rate this as a 2 (One is the least about of marks and 10 is wow... I went mark crazy!) Say more with less, right? Welcome to my world. And my plein air friend, anytime you come this far east let's go painting together!

Thanks Brian! It's funny because I liked this when I completed it, then when I brought it back to the studio I critiqued it to death. Go figure, eh? Maybe I'll give it a second look. Thanks for the boost!
