Down River/ Interview

about 4 x11, pastel and oil on marble dust board
Exploration. I kept thinking about this painting and couldn't sleep so why not just go to work? This time I changed the format and underpainted in oil (for more vibrancy). I like this stretched out version as it gives a whole different feel. I think I will do another.
On another note, Casey Klahn has posted an interview he did with me called Plein Air On Purpose-Loriann Signori. If you have a moment please check out his site Pastel to see it. I really feel honored. It's my first interview ever! Thanks Casey!

Hi Loriann, Love the wide horizontal format. Beautiful as always! Hey, I clicked on Casey's site and there must be something wrong. No paintings, nothing.

I see the problem, Loriann. The link says "pastelblog", rather than "pastelsblog". The other blogger has claimed his blog, but no posts, yet.

Technology!

Oh dear...thanks Janelle and Casey. I have fixed the problem. I guess that is what happens when I post at 3:17 in the morning. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.

Your colours and light effects are fantastic. Really gives me the urge to get my pastel box out and start to paint. Well done. Benoit

Hello Loriann, What a lovely lovely painting. I like your careful and expressful choices and balance between how much and how little.

You are officially a celebrity!
I like this wide format too. I like that you often switch up your formats.

Thank you Benoit! Please do get out your pastels....but beware, they are habit forming. :-)
Now let me go check out your site. Thanks for dropping by today.

Thanks so much for noticing that balance Susan. The choices seem so much easier in the studio, when everything moves much slower..... Don't you think?

Karen, A celebrity! I never thought of it quite that way! oh dear!
On another note, it is fun to switch the formats, something as small as that can change everything about how the same scene is considered. Now let me go see what you are up to.

I enjoyed the interview. I feel I know you better since I've seen your smiling face and learned about your motivations. Thanks for sharing.

Loriann, I like the wide format and the value shifts to show recession. The three landmasses are well executed. How do you do an oil underpainting? Add a drying medium? was texture an issue? Great interview by the way and you stated your case well.

Thanks for taking the time to read the interview Jill. I debated about sending the photo... so I am glad it helped:-)

Brian, In an oil underpainting I use a lot of gamsol to thin the paint- sort of the opposite of palette knife painting. And since I am the impatient sort I use a powerful blow drier to dry it. When painting BIG, over 3 ft, I always underpaint in oil.
Thanks for your thoughtful comments. I was nervous to put all my thoughts so far out there...anyone can see! Yipes!
