about 6 x6 each :top -pastel and watercolor on marble dust board, bottom- oil on paperToday is a very windy day. I went out to the reservoir and painted then on the way home I bought a pink doughnut. After seeing the one Susan had painted recently I was inspired to do something completely different.. This one has these BIG jimmies on top. I think they were hearts and snowflakes. My goal was to paint the first painting in pastel and the second in oil with the palette knife. Familiar to unfamiliar. In the process I would hopefully transfer what I learned with pastel to the knife painting.
I am feeling a bit elastic lately as I stretch to work with this knife.

The pastels come easier. Every moment with the knife is a struggle. I just want to hide them away. Maybe I will keep struggling in private and post pastels. What a total chicken, eh?

Don't feel bad (re: your comment here)--I've currently wimped out with the knife. :) I'll go back again, but after those first attempts, I'd rather kill someone with the knife than paint with it. ;)

Wonderful color. These are some fabulous donuts. Both have there own character. Really like the surface you worked on with pastels. Very nice and seductive. Makes me want to eat a donut.

It's funny about the color...it's not like I am trying to make any kind of statement. It just is the way I respond to color. Do you know what I mean? It wouldn't feel right to do it another way-for better or worse. I'm sure you would understand Casey.
It's always a surprise and a delight to see the rubber band stuff as well as the more (I don't know what to call it) known (?), cultivated (?) stuff. Don't you think these feed the whole process too? (at least that's what I tell myself when I'm going 'astray' for a moment).

I'm a new visitor to your site, and I am captivated by your approach. As one who has never worked ina anything but pastels, I feel your pain...and I know I need to branch out. Umm...maybe tomorrow.
