Early Morning Crystals

6x 12 pastel and watercolor on Uart paper, $100.
Sparkly water with hints of sky, that was the concept.
I did this one yesterday morning, since at this moment I am on the beach in Sanibel Island. We, my husband and I, are away celebrating his big accomplishment. He is now Dr. Paul. I promised I would not paint on this mini celebratory vacation. I think that will be hard. I am like an addict. But what better place to attempt a "dry period." I will return later next week.

Hello, your post came in my Google Sanibel Alerts today. That's why I dropped by. :-)

I live at Sanibel, so I know the weather is going to be wonderful for your stay. Have a great time!

Not paint while on an island surrounded by WATER? That's like holding out a chocolate bar to a woman on a diet, isn't it? Kind of cruel. !
Congrats to your hubby! what kind of doctor? ph.d., m.d., or...?
Love the clouds reflection in this one.
I was on Sanibel Island a few times as a kid. I remember going nuts trying to collect every shell in existence.

Fantastic reflections in this one (and sparkle). Congrats to your husband, the Dr.! Impressive.
Enjoy your trip, and even if you're not putting pastel to paper, your gathering images in your mind.

Welcome to the sunshine state! And you didn't even bring your easel? Ouch. Though I know you love the colors of winter, I'm sure you can enjoy the temporary lack of ice crystals.

Loriann-
Sanibel (and Captiva ) are too pretty not to paint! At least get lots of reference photos. The Sanibel lighthouse is a beautiful spot in the morning, and sunsets on Captive are amazing (look for the green flash--very cool). Enjoy! -W

The sparkly water in this painting is really beautiful, Loriann, and I like the horizontal sweep of this highlighting very much. Gives the painting a calming feel that works with the cool, crisp colors of the water and trees. I hope you are having a nice, relaxing time in warmer weather.

Hi Jala!
Yup, i too collected every shell in existence and Sanibel was amazing! It was a little frustrating to not be able to paint for 4 whole days....yes that chocolate bar was always there...but now I have my head exploding with paintings that need to be done and I will have to work from my notes and memory. We'll see how that comes .
As for Dr.Paul, he is a doctor of molecular biology. He researches cancer at NIH. It has been a long road to this point. He is a good man with a big heart who wants to help make a difference. I am a lucky woman.

Thank you Dori and Karen! You are right even if I couldn't be at the easel I was thinking and now I am chomping at the bit to try my best at creating the vision and feeling!
Thanks! Loriann
