Iridescence Through the Rain

15x15 pastel and acrylic on marble dust board

On Saturday I went to my friend's memorial service. It was a rainy, quiet, very sad day. On the way home I stopped at a regional park I had never been to before. I walked through the woods and arrived at this beautiful space. For the last two days I have been trying to paint the emotions through that beautiful place. I have to stop now since I have filled the tooth on the board. I had topped the marble dust with iridescent gold and that filled the tooth a little too much.

Lovely!!! Awesome iridescence in the foreground water. Interesting note - the gold dust.

Wow this is beautiful. A wonderful tribute to your friend. It reminds me of Sam Lewis Park in York County, PA, overlooking the Susquehanna.

Thanks Neetzy and thanks for checking out my blog. I will have to take a day trip up to York sometime.

Thanks Janelle. I love that phrase hushed elegance....what a feel it gives.

Thanks Jala! Light is everywhere bouncing all over when it is overcast...just the opposite of what people think. It's my favorite time.

Have you done other pastels that had gold bits (literally, it's metal? gold?) in them?

loriann signori said...

Yep, Jala. I have played with gold flecks in my marble dust mixture (on top.) This time I used Iridescent gold acrylic paint in a value underpainting. I'll try almost anything. Work is play...play is work. Have any new ideas?

Pearlescence is a great additive in pastels, too.

Following you daily.

Hi Casey!! Thanks for checking in with me (and often!) I do have a couple pearlescence- type pastels DT. Have you worked with gold leaf underneath? How s your river series going?
