smoke on the water

8x8 pastel and watercolor on uart
I was given a second try to capture the idea of light fog rising off the water. Yesterday's looked more like ice...this time it does look more like vapor. To create the vapor like effect I used many colors of the same value intertwined. Maybe I will try it next with this painting as a reference.
I have been very busy getting ready for my show that opens on Saturday night- Man vs. Nature. (Please come if you can.) This show documents the beauty we are losing due to the construction of the new 6 lane toll road the inter-county connector, otherwise known as the ICC. It's been a very emotional time for me. It's amazing how this kind of work can be so upsetting. Beauty lost forever.

I've been watching you try to stop time (and the ICC) with your art. Even though roads and houses will come and go, your art is timeless. Have faith; it will outlive the damn developers. Thanks to you, the beauty is not lost forever.

Hi Loriann,

You've really succeeded this time. The foggy mist makes me think I'm hearing the sounds of a paddle slipping through the water. I know how sound carries over quiet foggy water. I really like the sun coming up on the background trees, that's beautiful.

It's all beautiful.

Loriann, your work is so inspiring. You see the beauty in nature and capture it with great sensitivity. Too bad the developers don't feel the same way about these spaces that will be forever lost. Good luck with your show. Wish I lived closer!

Loriann, I'm thrilled that you visited us. Thanks so much for your generous remarks. I'm not surprised that an artist who creates such beauty has beauty within.
