almost breakfast time

10x10 pastel on BFK
The morning was very quiet, but not as cold as usual. As I waited for my favorite scone bakery to open I decided that I was up for the challenge of painting the sunrise through the trees. Warm and cool layers of marks was my method on this smooth paper. The leftover bits of snow on the ground added unusual lights in the grass. I love the glazey feel the sun makes over the distant trees and homes.
Now I will eat my scone and tea.

PS Thank you everyone for your input about my lighting issue. I will buy a book light today!

Another spontanious gem. As to yesterdays post. The light I like most uses either 4 AA batteries or can be plugged in to a house outlet(doesnt help much for painting)I suppose with some creativity a converter could be used to plug into car lighter. The light is simply called clip on battery lamp by www.daylightcompany.com. It's never on sale at ac moore so the weekly 50% off coupons can be used. You can get a reading light cheaper but this light gives very good color. Good Luck!

This is a 'beaut' as my friends in Australia would say.. Love the abstract feel with just enough info that you know it's sun through the trees.
In my part of the world where they make clotted cream you would be shot at dawn if you had scones and tea without jam and clotted cream (lol)......

Hi Leah, yup, scones. There's a bakery nearby that actually makes fresh fig scones. Yum!

Hi Casey and thanks...who knows exactly where it will lead.

Hi Brian, Thank you and I will check out the light at AC Moore.

Hi Maggie, Thanks and if you have any of that wonderful clotted cream send it this way. That was the best thing about the scones in you part of the world- clotted cream and jam. Yum!

I love the texture and subtle color interplay in the foreground in this one, and the more dramatic color in the background is gorgeous. Beautiful work!

Hi Brian, It's so funny about this one. I feel I can paint it again and again and still never come close to that feel. I could have named it, "I will always elude you."

Thank you for your encouraging words.

"Scones and tea"...how very British of you...

This one really looks to me like a Wolf Kahn. The way the tree strokes were done.

Hi Jala!
British I am not...but I do enjoy a good scone. There are so many imitations out there.
You are right about the marks in the trees being Wolf Kahn like. I think I should examine his trees.
