detail
5 x12 pastel on BFK

I did this one(left) on Sunday. The lake was mostly frozen with a mix of hard and soft edges, yet I wanted to keep my edges soft.  After I brought it home and lived with it for a day I realized that it didn't feel finished. It needed the feel of a warm touch. Therefore it took a visit to the studio (middle).

I have been working with the idea that magic happens in the place where color meets color. I added a detail that describes it better than my words.

I think it's amazing that the detail, such a small area, says so much. This little whisper fills up such a big space (the rest of the piece. It's all it needs.

Sam, She's back and will continue to visit. Stay tuned.

Hi Karen and thank you! It always amazes me how just a few strokes makes or breaks it. hmmmmm.

Ooo, yes. Very effective and beautiful! The little bit of bright orange next to the small spots of light blue, and the glowing edge of the foreground tree...

Thanks B, for providing us with solutions to problems with color. Everything is not black and white.

Complimentary colors show their strength when juxtaposed like you have done. Your studio resolve is quite lovely. Remember Richard said, "paint the transitions." It looks to me like you nailed that one!
