differences in sky and water

6x6 oil on board
I have been working on this small one for a week now. My methods are similar to the ways I learned from the magnificent Sadie, although I have adapted them to suit me. At this point I am only focusing on sky and water. The sky is being painted more opaquely with color. I used many different colors in the same value right near each other. The water is more translucent and rubbed in. I allowed more of the paint(color) underneath to rise up like it does in nature.

Wow B!!!!!!!!!
This is beautiful!

It seems you learned from Sadie, although I think it just awakened something in you that was already there. This painting is inspirational for me and many others who will realize it once they view this new post.

The colors are magnificent. It's a new favorite for me in 2010.

Hi PB!!!
You are always so supportive! Thank you! I am still working on this one. I am working hard to paint the image in my mind.
Now that you are sporting two arms are you back in the studio? Or still trying to get that poor shoulder and arm to move?
Good to have you back!

Hi Loriann,
one can see your improvement with your oils. Magnificent painting. Just love your values and color harmonies.

Hi B,
Still hard for me to reach right ... as in my work table where I keep brushes, palette and water containers.
Also difficult for me to reach up and out as in the top of my drawing board. I can however reach my lap so I think I'm going to go out sketching soon and see how that goes. I still have a lot of pain and stiffness but the therapy is beginning to work. I'm still in disbelief on how long this will take.

I really love the umber to violet fade. The rubbed quality is sublime, too.

I was wondering when you were going to add colour to your lovely under painting you did last week. It is coming along beautifully, I really like the way the painting looks so simple as if there was almost nothing there except a soft focus atmosphere, then suddenly I see so much more.

Thanks Astrid. I am working hard.

Hey PB,
I do realize how hard it is to "come back" after such a severe injury. Be patient..if you can. Note your small steps so you feel better about your progress. I remember a couple weeks ago when you couldn't write an email or comment. Thinks are getting better. Sounds like a good idea to take your sketchbook and enjoy drawing. Can't wait to see.

Hi Casey!
Thank you for your compliment.

Hi Caroline!
I have been working on this slowly allowing it to dry a little between layers. More on this one later!

Wow! I thought your P.S. (Prior to Sadie) oils were beautiful, but this one is so sophisticated! It is Grace Kelly.

Thanks for your comment on my blog, Loriann. It means a lot to have blogging friends reach out.

At first glance, I thought glass-like surfaces, floating in light, and yet having an earthy foundation.

Very successful!

Yes this one is magnificent!! How those trees go back into the distance, the opaque vs translucent...just perfect.

hi Katherine, I hope you are doing OK.My thoughts are with you.
Thank you about the painting. Grace Kelly...heehee. I am wondering if I should have posted it since I am still working on it.

Hi Melinda!
Thanks...glass-like surfaces, I like that.
