painting under pressure at the cherry blossoms

6x8 pastel on twinrocker
I don't know if it was pure foolishness or bravery (they can be close cousins you know) which sent me to the cherry blossoms downtown at sunrise....ON A SATURDAY MORNING!!!!! I decided it was a good practice painting under pressure, like we do at plein air events.
It's funny I wasn't really interested in the blossoms, my usual muse (light on water) came forth and made me paint her. The sunrise was very diffuse and blinding. I started with this-
Next I took it to the studio to make a more cohesive feeling done just by my memory. Success? No. But it sure was practice painting under pressure! Paul was with me for a couple of minutes. He said in that time at least 100 tourists took my photo. Egad!
Here's a few of the photos he took.

You know I really love the first one, it has such freshness about it. Looks just like a Monet!

Great paper effect!

I'd think you were an exhibitionist if I didn't know you're just a color junkie looking for a fix.

Hi Loriann,
I agree with Caroline- looks like a Monet. More to the point it feels like a Monet .You have captured a moment in time. I prefer to have less traffic surrounding me when I am outdoors- so extra credit for going out to paint surrounded by the crowds.
You asked where you can see my work. At this time
I do not have a web site . Hopefully someday soon.
If I can finally have the patience to learn digital photography I could download an image. It seems that just as I was getting the hang of shooting slides everything changed.

I was looking to see if there were any fences you had to climb to get there. I know how you like a challenge. I enjoyed our time in Sarasota and your work it amazing.

You should get a gold medal for both paintings!

Talk about painting under pressure. I hope the crowd was gentle and no one knocked you into the water.
How long did you actually stand there painting?

Two years ago I think I was standing in this very place ... with a camera of course. I tip my hat to your courage.

What a beautiful photo of you painting under the cherry blossoms! I think you need to enlarge it and put it in a frame.

Hi Carolyn,
Your probably right...I blew it. I simply wasn't satisfied with the first one(bottom). Oh dear!

Hi Sam..I was shocked how many people were up at 5:30 on a Saturday morning to see the blossoms. How could I get my fix with all of them there????? Gotta, do what you gotta do, eh?

Hi Deborah!
Nope no fences today..heehee. It was fun painting, eating and playing together in Sarasota! Thank you about my work! I have been working hard in the studio on some new painting done in a similar way to what Sadie taught us. More on that later.

Hey PB!!!!
Thank you! It was really good practice to tune everyone out and just stay with the painting. I must say it was easy..unless someone came up and disturbed me by trying to talk ..even asking permission to photograph, which a handful did.
I probably stood for an hour. You were here two years ago and you DIDN"T visit me? oh dear! (oops I guess you didn't know me than!)-b

Hi Janelle..thank you about the photo Paul took. If you look closely you'll see my face snarled up into a squint... so necessary, yet unbecoming. I bet there are thousands of photos like that on the loose.

Ooops..I missed yours NJ!
Thank you about the painting... and I am in total agreement I prefer to be completely alone to paint...no one! it's not always possible. That will be my last blossom painting...I think.
Do let me know when you have a website...looking forward to it!

Very cool.
I applaud your bravery in painting in front of passing hordes.
I've been in D.C. when it was cherry blossom time...so gorgeous.
Speaking of gorgeous, look at that amazing hair of yours!
The drowned teddy bear is a really great photo.

Wow! You are brave. You look, though, as you are completely focused on the work and the resulting painting proves your success.

Thanks for sharing the photos!

Hi Jala...yah, it was a little nuts to try to paint with all those people. good training. I posted the teddy bear one for YOU! the hair?

Hi Melinda! Thanks...I am glad I am done with that one.
