8x10 pastel and watercolor on UArt
I wanted to return to watercolor on Uart again...see what would happen. I was bothered by the chunkiness of it. I want a lighter touch. Anyone have experience with a watercolor paper that would accept pastel without a myriad of those irritating bumps? I have liked the gauzy feeling I have been getting from the BFK and Twinrocker papers.
Thank you to Doug (PB) for his helpful paper suggestions!

I bought a Strathmore sampler of watercolor papers and some of those have been smooth as you describe, but I can't tell you which. Sorry.
It will buckle a bit, but both Stonehenge and Bristol smooth have a nice surface and hold a surprising amount of pastel.
Wallis will take watercolor nicely and has an even surface but it is sanded and will take a lot of pastel, too. The surface will eat up your watercolor brushes, so don't use your expensive ones.
I liked DD's suggestions of hot press watercolor paper, too.

Which TwinRocker do you like? I'm looking for good paper for charcoal drawings and would welcome your suggestions before I hit the buy button at Blick ;)
Thank Katherine,I will give them a try.
Hi Lisa,
The Twinrocker I have been using is white 215 gm feather deckle, one side cold press the other hot press (texture/smooth). I like it a lot. Check out Brian's site for info on papers, he's the local expert. Here's his address:

Check out his beautiful work and his section on handmade papers.
Enjoy your button at blick!
Re: Twinrocker. If you go to their site they have a neat little gadget that will "find" what you are looking for within their entire line if you put in a few indicators (medium, weight, etc.). Many of their papers come in different specs, so its a much larger selection that what you get at Blick or other suppliers.
Oh my. The Twinrocker site is like a candy store. So many papers plus so many landscapes to draw. Perfect, thanks!
This is just incredibly beautiful!
That one woman show is going to rock!
Thanks for the heads up Deborah! Looks wonderful! What are your favorites?
Hi Lisa, let me know what you choose and your results, ok?
