chagall and expression of love

8x10 oil on board

art must be an expression of love or it is nothing.- marc chagall

After months of work on this small 8x10, it's done. Quiet love. The sky was the real fun. Layers and layers or stimpling and warm and cool glazes. The challenge was the row of trees. I was determined to keep them on the same plane. Therefore I had to use the other tools I had at my fingertips- color, temperature, size, shape and chroma.
This is the field that will leave for development- the sacrificial lamb for progress. I love this field and will be so sad when it leaves.

Loriann,
I love this! It is very well developed and beautiful. Are you going to do a large version?

It is sad that this beautiful place will be no more, yet you have captured it perfectly. Lovely colour harmony.

Good Morning B,

Another beautiful treasure!
You are ever changing in style, color and light.
The only thing I can say is wow and I think you should keep this one as your memory of the field.

I'm off to Mayo Clinic, be back soon I hope.

Like the painting Loriann. Chagall what a fun artist. Here is a nice video of his work. Especially like the music which is by the Belgian minimalist composer Whim Mertens.

Thank you Leah!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Sally!

This is one that was carried through many separate metamorphoses, so I think in the process it became well-developed as I searched for the way to say it. As for a big one???? I don't know. I am working on different versions of this idea...can't commit just yet.

Hi Caroline,
Thank you. Emotion can sometimes be the key...too bad it's a sad/longing emotion that speaks. Better than no emotion.

Good morning PB, Hope the visit to the mayo clinic is good....let me know, K? Thanks about the painting!

Hi Steve, Thanks for the clip, I will check it out in a down time. Thanks also about the painting.

More and more, it becomes apparent that artists are the timekeepers of our earth! Nice piece Lorianne.

Beautiful, exemplary piece in oil. I root for a big one, too.

I agree with MC.

Good way to say it Brenda.. it is so true.

Hi Casey!! Thanks you about the painting...we will see about the big one. It is this painting that was made me rethink methods. I will post that this week.

What a great quote, I say it applies to most things in life. The field...sigh. I've seen so many of beautiful fields around here disappear and wish I painted them. You did right by that field, for it will live on in your painting, make s huge one.

"Artists are the timekeepers of our earth." Beautifully put, B Boylan. I think it will stick with me for a while.
