mark making and vincent

8x8 pastel and watercolor on Uart paper
The river was still and my concept was about mark making..the joy and the quiet. Thinking in a way more akin to paint, I thought about thick and thin passages of pastel, active and inactive marks, transparent and opaque.

I am preparing for my big online sale that opens Thursday at 5pm. PB has already stated his fave and claimed it.

I close with a quote by  Vincent van Gogh,
"The only time I feel alive is when I am painting."

yep, life is good

This is wonderful in its simplicity and use of color and line.

Good Morning B!!!!!

Wonderful quote from Vincent. I'm glad you take the time to find these gems. This one fits you to a T.

Now to the painting. You seem to be painting from a source not seen before by your admirers'. Powerful but serene, confident and beautiful. I don't know about other's feel, but for me I hope you continue on this path for a while.

Thanks for sharing your talent.

I love seeing the before and after stages here Loriann. I actually think the watercolours alone have their own fragile beauty. I think PB is right the no sky paintings do have something very special all of their own.

Thanks Sonya, Simplicity is so important, isn't it?

Hey PB,
Glad you liked the Vincent quote, I did too. Painting from a source not seen before..i like your way of putting that. I had just thought of it as progress/process, but maybe am tapping into a new place...hmmmmm.One thing I have learned is that I try not to let "what others must see" influence what i do on my blog. What that means is an awful lot of exposed dogs, but that is an artist's journey.
Thanks for your supportive comments...and you're right yesterday's values were too close... I guess I pushed it too far. But if I don't do that I will never know how far I can go, right?
cheers PB! -b

Hi Caroline, The before and after stages are interesting to me too. My friend Leah noted that my no sky painting signify needing to ground myself...i guess i do this as a travel on a new path. Thanks for stopping by!

While I appreciate the Vincent quote, I know you better than to believe that painting is only time you feel alive.
You are one of the most alive people I know!

I want to buy this underpainting. I know; I'm screwed.
(Sorry. I'm listening to funk; it makes me rude.)

You successfully captured "the joy and the quiet" here, Loriann. This has a beautiful serene shimmering quality to it.

Such a peaceful painting. You sure make the transparency thing work for you. I feel like I can see into the water!
