summer solstice, pablo picasso and finished field

12x24 pastel and watercolor on Uart
After 4 times in the field, I took this painting to the studio. It needed more feeling and less looking.
Pablo Picasso said it best,  "to draw you must close your eyes and sing"
The goal was to feel the amazement of the longest day of the year, that light, intense, warm and magical.  (big goal, eh?)
I think I will work on another version of this one.

Happy Summer everyone!

B, you've captured every word in this wonderful painting. I look forward to many more large plein air paintings in your future. I can certainly see the visit to the studio ... tremendous feeling.

I haven't yet found that single word to describe this one. Which ever word it becomes, the meaning will be the same ... wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great quote and so true!

Love the work you are doing and I wish you a grand summer ahead with lots of looking, closing your eyes and singing at the top of your lungs.

Love that webby, gossamer feel you manage to get without compromising on under the surface solidity. Yes, it was a wonderful day today in the UK too.

Love that painting! very evocative of the summer solstice too. Not much of a summer so far here in Scotland but it was lovely here for the longest day.

Hi Sheila, Thanks for noticing. It's a balance to get the feel of air, yet still the solidity of land. Love you work!
