the bird sanctuary, lessons in plein air oil

6x6 oil on board
I know all my ..well most of my faults in plein air oil. It's almost like I forget all I know.
Wait, let me try again....... I will try to put it in the positive.
1. I will fracture color less and have more sweeps of color so that way the viewer can enjoy the fractured color....it's like being on a diet of cookies only.
2. I will be certain to paint in a higher key. To do this I will begin with the sky and keep it an 8.5 or 9. 3. And the issue that pertains to all painting- pastel or oil, I will spotlight the diva and lose the edges and focus in the other areas. Confessions....I am done for now.  ;-)

Hi B!!!!! It's a beauty, great colors and brush strokes.
It will be interesting when you return home to see how many of the bullet points from all your lessons will make it into the paintings. My memory only allows one thing at a time. First .... why am I in the car??????and so on.

It seems you've just been on the ole hamster wheel the entire time out there. Have you stopped to smell the roses ... closed your eyes for 5 minutes? Just stay well ... k?

Beautiful painting, I could see this on a really massive canvas so you could walk right into the scene.

Congratulations on your trip and all of your paintings. I enjoy the composition, the green and yellow/ochres, and esp. the grays here. Bravo!

Hey PB!!! Don't worry next part of my trip involves some rose smelling. Tomorrow I will leave for the Olympic Peninsula....hiking in the rainforest, kayaking, hot springs, beaches, etc. Of course painting will be involved but not at the same rabid pace I have kept up for the last 17 days. How are you?????

Hi Marian! It's good to hear form you again. Thank you.

Hi Caroline...thanks. I am not sure if it will grow...but some of my other pastels will definitely see SIZE.

Hi Casey! Grays, yes the magic of grays..have to love grays. They make the other colors live and breathe. The adventure, part two begins tomorrow.

Wow! This is a beautiful painting and shows you putting into action what you've been taught.

I can't believe the bear story!! You were so wise to turn around when you heard the large-animal sounds.

Believe it or not, so far we have not seen many bears in Alaska. I thought that they would be as plentiful as dogs, but the salmon season will bring them out to the stream ends so maybe soon!

Keep up the great work. I was thinking about how feedback and critique can sometimes bring me down and I wanted to say to YOU that the feedback is building on the already good-painting-practice-and-product you have. Your work is great and it's inspiring hearing about you reaching to do even better.

Keep up the great work. Nice to see you bringing oil out of the studio, too.

Seems to be the current theme. A good friend emailed today with, "I wish I had the confidence in me that my friends do." None of us think we're as good as we really are. The human ego is full of baloney.

Diet of cookies only? Mmm...can I please be on the Double Chocolate Milano diet?
This is lovely, vibrant, glowing.

This is a great one. The sky key gets me thinking. I don't think the key here in Colorado is always so high. Have to ponder this.

Hi Katherine, I would have thought Alaska would have tons of bears too. Go figure. Thanks for the boost about the critique...I do rebound easily. This time even more determined than ever to learn.

Hi Sam!
I think it's because we are never as good as we strive to be...there is ALWAYS more!

Hi Jala, I will join you for that diet!

Hi Pam, if you make it that high you will make more space. Keep in mind we make beautiful lies...so whatever it takes to achieve our goal, right?
