twilight, memory painting

AH, I love painting from memory. The field at twilight made a strong impression. I could wait to paint it. Finally 36 hours later I created this.
With this I  leave you a quote from Whistler,a painting should not be an exact imitation of reality. It should make an effect through color or through the arrangement of areas of color.Memory was his greatest tool.

Beautiful, subtle steps of color, yet strongly stated.

You and blue-violet have a real thing going. I bet you see that color on the inside of your eyelids when you close them. Lucky you.

I remember what I have for breakfast only because I eat the same thing every day. I admire your memory.

Thank you Bob...my memory for things such as what I had for breakfast is not strong, but my visual memory has been made strong by my constant practice during my recovery. I guess there is a positive side to every negative. I couldn't go and paint on location, but I could sit, observe, be still. I wouldn't ever what to replace the experience. Now I SEE in my head. I remember a quote, I think it's from Gauguin, " I close my eyes to see." I now understand.

LOL Bob!

That sky is gorgeous, Loriann. The more I look at how you paint skies the more I am convinced that the underpainting color showing through not only creates color vibration but it also adds depth. A sky is not a flat surface - there must be layers to pass through to give the illusion of space, or something like that.

Thanks Jala!

Hi Donna! Thank you about my sky. You are so right, the underpainting does add depth. It's vital to create that huge dome like ceiling. Space is DEEP. You know so much!
