onerous task and release

James McNeil Whistler realized that working from memory inevitably led to simplification and released him from the onerous task of being true to life.
Here is another Chincoteague beach, as I continue to enjoy the release.

More and more, I think that it is far more interesting to see in a painting what thrilled the artist. If I wanted to see it "true to life," I could go there myself or look at a photo. What is most desirable is to see the scene as filtered through the eyes, thoughts, and the very fibers of the artist's being.

Beautiful work! And completely interesting and desirable.

Loriann, your latest stuff shows a sort of graceful exhale. Nice.
