working from your work en plein air

second painting, pastel

This summer I have been experimenting with working from my plein air paintings while on location. Make one painting, then make another one using both the scene in front of me, my first painting and my new ideas to make the next painting. Another way to jump out of the box.
first painting, solely plein air

All I can think to say is I love these. I sometimes work from my work too. I take what I wrote the day before and write from that. I turn an ending into a new beginning.

Thanks Liz!
That's a good point. I never thought about the way a writer/poet might do the same.
Thanks about the paintings!!

beautiful work again! I love your paintings, I have such a fascination with pastel--yet I've never tried it. what would you recommend for a newbie? how many pastels do I need to start? Oils are so complicated to travel with too.

Pastels are wonderful for travel, as long as you keep them in your carry-on. Never let someone else handle them without your eyeballs on them!
As for recommendations... you can get the sennelier plein air set/half sticks. It's a great bargain for 80 sticks. The cost is around 200. If you want to spend more money I can make another suggestion- girault makes wonderful pastels- get the plein air and richard mckinley's neutrals and friends.....nice combo.... more $
Thanks for stopping by. I love your paintings too!
