8x10 pastel on Uart
Done from memory and notes from the summer, this painting started with a grisaille, upon which I pasteled directly (no watercolor.) hmmmm. It's my first attempt at a nocturne. I have had it in my mind for a long time, I simply had to soak up the color and understand. This is the added on version. The first I posted at 5:30 am. When I returned to the studio at 1:00 it was obvious the painting needed more (thanks Doug.)
Maybe someday I will try to rig up my easel for plein air at night. Any tips friends?

Hi Loriann,
I really like the path into this painting and the highlight as the river rounds the bend and pops through ever so slightly. Nice little focal point.
Last night I did a critique for the Mid Michigan Art Guild so I'm still in that mode. So, if I may, the grass in the foreground doesn't seem to fit the rest of the painting. Just an opinion so stop yelling at me. Hopefully, I'm still your painting Buddy.
Hi Doug... I really appreciate constructive criticism. We as bloggers spend a lot of time patting each other on the back. While that is good and yes we need it a little boost. Often times what I need is a fresh set of eyes. (and a kick in the tush) Thanks for lending me yours! That's what buddies are for, right? buddette
Loriann, I love the colours in this one. I understand that you were trying to connect the foreground foliage with the middle mass?...... I wonder what it would look like if ti were taken out?
Hi Maggie, thanks for stopping by my blog! That's a good point you make..hmmmm, just take it out! Hope your new gallery/cafe is going well.
Loriann, thank you for being such an understanding soul. I just want everyone to be the best they can be.
Your work is so beautiful and I seldom see something to suggest to you. This one is so gorgeous when I enlarge it I just lay my hand over the grass and crop it out and then it's just awesome. But again it's just my opinion and I would love your work how ever you present it. Bla bla bla, having a hard time keeping my train of thought. Your Buddy.
Hi Bud, I am just a learner, like you, a life long learner-explorer, so please do feel free to really comment. I guess the grass has got to go. It's funny how I thought the problem was the tree humps and I tried to"fix"them.
you can always take it out in photoshop first to see what it looks like.
Loriann,
I love your work, and didn’t mean to sound rude about your painting. Thank you for asking about my new Gallery and Tea Shop. Sold a couple of originals last week which blew me away...... it's early days yet…. Maybe a little crazy to start a new venture in the midst of a recession……the nice part is sharing operating hours with my business partner and artist friend, and being able to paint on the premises when it’s quiet.
I love your new watercolour underpainiting...love it just the way it is!
Maggie
Hi Bill and thank you for the idea.
Hi Maggie, don't worry, I took no offense. I really appreciate hearing others ideas and suggestions. Feel free to add your two cents anytime. congrats on your early success. You deserve it. Loriann
