morning's crisp air

8x8 pastel on watercolor on wallis (actually painted on Sunday)
Focus -sky
I began with defining the color and value of the light in the distant sky and how it will be reflected in the water. The sky is the lightest value, followed by the light reflection in the water.
There was a heavy frost coating the grass.  Hundreds of Canadian geese were floating on the water. Winter's coming.

Beautiful depiction of the light at this time of year, Loriann, as was your painting of the same location a few days ago. I know you'll be happy to have a light dusting of snow one of these days!

Hi Donna! How have you been? Thank you about the paintings. This is a favorite location of mine and I am like a homing pigeon.
All this rain...we can only be hopeful that this also means we will have a snowy winter. ;-)

Hi B,

You make so many colors work together it's gorgeous.
It's interesting that there were hundreds of geese on the water when you did this. Saturday morning there were hundreds of geese on the pond in front of me.
I had a camera in the back pack. It would have been nice if I had popped off a few shots when they all took off at once. DA.
You'll have to tell me about the colors you used in the sky. You're good, really good.

Loriann, you're really making the lower horizon work for you. The water is lovely, of course, but the sky steals the show in this one.

Hey PB,
You are right I really pushed the color envelope...not sure if it worked completely. The colors (watercolor) in the sky were cad yellow light and cerulean blue and a touch of cobalt. Later I glazed with more pastel light cool blue and light cool melon colored pastel.
I wish i had my camera with me. The geese were too numerous to even think of placing in this small painting, but it might have been good reference for another bigger one. Thank you PB

Hi Katherine, Thanks, this lower horizon is really out of my comfort. I guess I will have to do many so it gets easier and better. Thanks for checking in!
