absolute stillness, realization 2 and John Constable

12x12 oil on panel  "absolute stillness"
My work at big pool for the last three week has culminated in a finished studio painting (oil.) So on to my next realization: the studies are just that..studies. Just like I take notes to remember, even though I need never look at them again. I paint studies because, like most artists, I am a visual/ kinesthetic  learner. I learn by doing. I can't take a photo. This scene at big pool was so embedded in me I see and feel it. After doing it so many times I feel like I KNOW big pool and that light.

This calls for a quote by one of my heros, John Constable:
We see nothing until we understand it.

And one last Constable quote:
Painting is a science and should be pursued as an inquiry into the laws of nature. Why, then, may not a landscape be considered as a branch of natural philosophy, of which pictures are but experiments?

Wow, Loriann, what a beauty!!!!!Pictures like this can't be created after a foto, they come from deep inside.

Loriann, You paint big pool like Constable painted big sky and clouds.

Beautiful piece, Loriann! You sure know the secret for making those big areas "speak." I could just explore this one all day.

I see abstraction in areas, too.

If Constable saw this, he would say, "you have realized the colours in this image just so."

Wonderful. Unified.

Beautiful painting Loriann, reminds me of a Turner the way the light just shines on throughout the painting. I especially like that pale light above the left hand trees.

I'm humbled and overwhelmed by the beauty and completeness of this painting. And I completely concur with your realization, I had a similar one a few weeks ago. We take the world in one study at a time and one day the cup is full and the realization is complete, it's become internalized. It's an indescribable feeling. In words that is:)

Nice, silvery.

I like that second quote a lot. The first one seems to me should be reversed.

word verif.: boompla

Thanks so much Astrid!

Thanks Bob! You definitely understand connection to a place. How are those barns lately?

Hi Donna! Thanks!!

Hi Casey! Thanks for speaking out for you and Constable.

Thank you Carolyn! I wish I could
paint light like Turner could.

Hi Nika, Thank you thank you thank you. Funny how those realizations work.

Hi Jala...Why reversed?

...Because I feel that we don't really understand visual phenomena until we really learn to see it with artist eyes.
