7x7 pastel and watercolor on marble dust board
My challenge today was to create both warmth and refraction. I had a lot of fun with the watercolor underpainting as a set-up. The pastel just painted itself.
Now I have to prepare all my things for the Mountain Maryland Plein Air. I am off tomorrow morning.
toodles for now....wish me luck!

love the texture and color! Good luck in the mountains.
Love this one! Looks like a new development with texture--more texture than usual? It is coming to the forefront.
Thanks Brian! Aren't you in Easton today? Wish I could come and visit. Thanks about the painting!
Hi Sally,
Long ago I painted on boards treated with marble dust and gesso. I would swish around a haphazard texture for contrast to the calm images. I found this one in the back of my car (the art cave 5) and had a blast with it. Maybe I will return to the boards. Hmmmm you just never know.
I love the yellow-green glow on the horizon. Good luck at your event. Paint well!
Great color. What I find even more fascinating is how the painting's made up of wedge-shaped fields of value and the darkest and lightest value wedges are almost equal area-wise. (I'm talking about the amount of space they take up in that rectangle of paper) And the mid-value wedges are practically equal too. Very cool!
Have a very good and productive event. Stay dry and do well!
Lorianne, this is so delicious, I could just 'lick' it! Yummy!
The texture certainly gives your painting another dimension. The colours are soft and pretty yet there is strength there in the shadows of the trees. Lovely harmonious work Loriann. All the best for your event.
Thanks Casey!!
Hi Nika, I didn't even notice the wedges. Thanks for the luck!
Hi Brenda..heehee lick it, eh?
Hi Caroline, You are right the texture adds a whole different dimension. Thanks for the well wishes!
