My challenge today was to create both warmth and refraction. I had a lot of fun with the watercolor underpainting as a set-up. The pastel just painted itself.
Now I have to prepare all my things for the Mountain Maryland Plein Air. I am off tomorrow morning.

Long ago I painted on boards treated with marble dust and gesso. I would swish around a haphazard texture for contrast to the calm images. I found this one in the back of my car (the art cave 5) and had a blast with it. Maybe I will return to the boards. Hmmmm you just never know.
I love the yellow-green glow on the horizon. Good luck at your event. Paint well!
Great color. What I find even more fascinating is how the painting's made up of wedge-shaped fields of value and the darkest and lightest value wedges are almost equal area-wise. (I'm talking about the amount of space they take up in that rectangle of paper) And the mid-value wedges are practically equal too. Very cool!

The texture certainly gives your painting another dimension. The colours are soft and pretty yet there is strength there in the shadows of the trees. Lovely harmonious work Loriann. All the best for your event.
